Eastcote House Gardens - July News

July has been a very exciting month for Eastcote House Gardens. Hundreds of visitors enjoyed the Summer Picnic on July 9th, organized by the Friends of Eastcote House Gardens, which brought together community & charity groups from Eastcote.

Nick Hurd MP unveiled a Memorial seat for the late Sheila Liberty, who saved the Walled Garden from demolition in the 1980’s. He also presented the Hinman Shield to Field End Infants School for their outstanding contribution to conservation.

Teams from The Case is Altered and the Black Horse contested the EHG Tug of War trophy. The victors, The Case is Altered were presented with the trophy by the Mayor of Hillingdon.

Story telling, children’s novelty races, Morris Dancers, classic cars, guided walks, many stalls and of course the superb Walled Garden were enjoyed by all, including surprise visits from John Randall MP & Richard Barnes deputy Mayor of London.

There were raffle and tombola prizes galore, thanks to the generosity of the Eastcote businesses and traders. Field End Infant School invited FEHG to their Prize giving assembly on 11th July, where a cheque for £233.39 was presented to the Chairman towards the Restoration Appeal. The FEHG are overwhelmed by the generosity of Field End Infant School for raising such a fantastic amount for Eastcote House Gardens.

Tudor Lodge Hotel, Field End Road, Eastcote, opened it’s doors to the Community on 24th July. Tudor Lodge very kindly invited the Friends of Eastcote House Gardens and Eastcote Royal British Legion to set up stalls and promote their causes. Karli’s cakes made a celebration cake for the 90th Anniversary year of the Royal British Legion. Bernard Roberts, British Legion stalwart, also aged 90, recently acclaimed Fabulous Fundraiser by Gazette/Uxbridge College Local Heroes panel also attended.

The month closed with the news that Eastcote House Gardens has been awarded Green Flag status, an accolade which is awarded to parks and gardens of excellence.

FEHG thanks all those who have worked so hard for the past three years to make this possible.
