Eastcote Cut Crime With Coffee?

Cops @ Costa It's often been said that coffee shops are taking over our high streets, with more and more of them branching out to offer extras such as sandwiches and ice cream. But a Costa branch in Eastcote is set to offer a far more practical service with your freshly ground beans; Cops @ Costa.

The scheme is part of a new initiative by the Eastcote & East Ruislip Safer Neighbourhoods Team intended to create an informal atmosphere where local residents can "drop in" and raise issues relating to local crime & anti-social behaviour as well as receive advice from the SNT.

Council Issue Tax Scam Warning

Council Issue Council Tax Scam WarningHillingdon Council is warning residents to be on their guard against a scam offering fake council tax refunds in order to get people's bank account details.

People pretending to work for Hillingdon Council are phoning residents, claiming they are from the council tax section, and telling residents that they have overpaid their council tax. The callers then request bank details with the promise of a refund for the alleged overpayment. If successful, the resident is then given another number to call which informs them that they need to pay an admin fee to get the refund.

Cllr Jonathan Bianco, Cabinet Member for Finance, Property and Business Services, said: Always be wary of anything which sounds too good to be true it usually is. You should never give your bank details to anyone who calls out of the blue claiming to be a member of our staff.

The council would never ring a resident to ask for their bank details to issue a refund. If an overpayment had been made, and a refund is due, we would either refund the money direct if it had been paid by direct debit, or by cheque sent to the bill payer's address.

The council has reported the scam to the police.

Any concerned residents should call the council tax team at the council on 01895 250000.
